“Sea View”, that’s the translation from the Cornish “Gwel an Mor”, which just so happens to be the same name as the luxury 5-star resort found atop the rugged North coast cliffs in Cornwall.
Looking out towards the Atlantic ocean from it’s vantage point above the harbour village of Portreath, those aforementioned sea views are part of the charm of this mix of self catering accommodation and rustic events spaces.
As a place to holiday, kick back and relax, it’s hard to beat the facilities on offer across the complex, ideal for anyone looking to take a break from the stresses of modern life.
Although tucked away on the coast, it’s location is just 10 minutes by car or taxi from Redruth, an historic mining town with a range of shops and easy mainline rail access.
Along the coastline from Gwel an Mor, there are plenty of sandy beaches to explore, the nearest being a short walk down to Portreath and the surf of Porthtowan a slightly longer stroll along the cliff path. The variety of sea and sand within easy reach, offers plenty of opportunity for fun and informal photographs if having a wedding on site.
If you are more “forest dweller” than “beach bum”, then fear not, Tehidy Woods can be found a stones throw down the road, with it’s woodland walks and golf course, complimented by Gwel an Mor’s own bluebell wood and Feadon nature farm within the resort itself.
Speaking of the resort, there is plenty to do if not venturing out and about, of course it can be tempting not to, given the luxury of the unique Scandinavian style timber lodge accommodation and their outdoor hot-tubs!
Although self catering, there is delicious food available from the Terrace Bar and Restaurant and if you over indulge with the food and drink, there is the Wellbeing Spa, Swimming pool, tennis courts, fitness suite and gym.
We spend a lot of time at Gwel an Mor (not taking advantage of all the relaxing facilities) but instead being a part of some truly magical weddings and each December providing entertainment for the resorts Christmas parties.
Weddings, civil ceremonies and renewal of vows at Gwel an Mor are enhanced by the opportunity of having 2 stunning licenced events spaces to hire for the celebrations.
Within a private courtyard setting, there is the events barn and yurt, both of which are designed to give a rustic feel, but with contemporary interiors and facilities to match. Don’t be fooled by the “barn” label, once inside, it’s a warm and welcoming space with drapes making it appear much like a luxury marquee setting. For smaller parties or for welcome drinks and a place to relax on a summers evening, the yurt proves to be a beautiful accompaniment to the barn.
Great access to both events spaces is via an ample car park adjoining the courtyard and the open nature of the interior of the barn means flexibility on the size and style of events that can be held there.
We are always pleased to work within these settings, greeted by a friendly welcome and a professional air, staff are attentive and give excellent customer service no matter what the occasion.
As a recommended supplier of Gwel an Mor, we can in return, highly recommend this multiple tourism award winning venue due to it’s stunning location, the flexibility of it’s events spaces and variety of relaxing holiday facilities.
